Email is our primary form of contacting clients. Sometimes our responses to your booking requests end up in spam folders. Please go into your contacts, on your phone, and add hello@refineemn.com in order to prevent that from happening.
*All custom fine line tattoos, please email: hello@refineemn.com & Please be specific. Describe the tattoo which includes the size and the desired area of placement.
**Please keep in mind - the smaller the tattoo, the simpler the design needs to be! As tattoo ages, tattoo ink does spread. If the tattoo isn’t designed to allow for that to spread, the piece will become a blob. We don’t want that!
Touch-up appointments are not required after your first Fine Line service, however it is recommended
If you are needing a Touch-Up, you must come in within the first three months to be free. Anything after will have a fee.
Annual Touch-UP/Refresher are recommended ever 3-5 years.
The touch-up rate is only honored for work done by our studio artist. Work done by another artist will be charged an additional fee.
FAQS
Frequently asked questions about Fine Line / Tattoo.
-
A fine line tattoo consists of distinct straight or curved super thin lines, without gradations in shade or color to represent 2D or 3D objects, emphasizing form and outline over color, shading, and texture. These tattoos can have incredible levels of detail built in, without being 'loud' about it. Fine line tattoos can be of any size, but a popular trend at the moment is micro tattoos, the smaller lines allowing more detail in smaller areas. These delicate line designs are usually light, simple, joyful, trendy, and say a lot about your personality.
-
It depends on the size and detail of the design. Small fine line tattoos can be done in 20-30 minutes, while larger designs take 1-2 hours.
-
While there is, of course, some discomfort, it is minimal. This is because the lines made are thin and smaller needles are used to do fine line tattooing. It is also because the designs we are tattooing are relatively small in size and so even if there is some discomfort, it doesn’t last long and is tolerable.
Areas of the body that are most painful are your ribs, spine, forehead, neck, ankles, hands, fingers and feet. The fleshier the area, the less it hurts.
-
Yes it is. Black ink is the least likely to cause an allergic reaction. When it comes to ink allergies,
Yellow and Red ink are the more problematic inks.

Although tattoos are permanent, that doesn’t mean they won't need some upkeep. Both traditional and fine line tattoos will fade and slightly blur over time. Proper technique by the artist and proper after care by the client will help minimize the need for a touchup early on. Most tattoo designs, including both traditional and fine line, will require a touch up at some point. This is partly because the immune system in the body will, in time, slowly and minimally remove the ink placed in the skin.
Sun exposure/ tanning will also cause the fading of the tattoo. I encourage you always wear an spf 30+ as this will give more life to the tattoo.
Feet, knees, fingers and elbows are all areas where tattoos fade faster. This is because of the movement in these areas and also because the skin in these areas regenerates faster.

The smaller the tattoo, the easier it will be to heal. So, fine-line tattoos will not take too much to heal. Actually, in a maximum of 3 weeks, they should be perfectly healed.
-
Technically, no. The lines should remain fine.
-
We learn so much from seeing our healed work. Although you may not always need a touchup, we offer a 6-8 week touchup for our clients to see our work healed and assess ways we can improve in your technique.
We recommend annual maintenance every 3-5 years as needed.
